If Everything is Ready, Why Do We Need You?
如若萬事具備,你的價值何在? If everything is ready, why do we need you?
Good things in life require intentionality – a healthy body, a peaceful mind, a loving family, a successful career..
Think of all the complaints you have from your day-to-day work.
I hate having to over-communicate simple things.
I hate doing phone calls when things can be done via email.
I hate last-minute ad hoc tasks.
These internal dialogues happen all the time and they are very disruptive if not handled properly. Yes, those problems exist and they are annoying, what are you going to do about them?
Do you just sit there and whine? Or do you proactively do something about it and be responsible for yourself and for the results?
During times like those, try asking yourself this question: "If everything is ready, then what is my value here?"
Human beings are born to proactively do their "jobs", whether that job is being the IT guy in a traditional business, a marketer in a struggling startup, or the CEO of a rising unicorn – we're not born to be passive and go with the flow.
If you just sit there waiting to be told what to do and waiting for solutions to come miraculously, why are you even needed in the first place? You could be easily replaced by the average Joe.
This post was originally inspired by Peep's (ConversionXL) newsletter:
There is one quality in people that I value above all, one that is the quickest path to promotion, fame and glory — being proactive.
The surefire way to become indispensable:
- Proactively find (previously unknown) problems,
- Constantly offer solutions and take responsibility over the execution,
- Own what nobody else is owning,
- Don't wait to be told to do something or learn something,
- Always look for ways to improve something, and see it through.
Wait to be told what to do and how to do it, and you'll always remain in the fungible camp.
